I have been seriously obsessed with posting my weekly meal prepping on the blog. It really keeps me accountable and hopefully helps give you guys ideas on what to meal prep! Or maybe you are just nosey and like to read what I'm doing lol. To each their own. Recently, I have been getting tons of questions during the week about my real prepping so I thought I'd address those questions today in a Q & A just incase others had the same questions!
// Do you eat the same meals every day?
Yes. I am one of those people that can eat turkey burgers and potatoes for lunch 5 days of the week and not get bored. I am one of the lucky ones.
// Do you eat the same meals every day for just the week or for the weekend as well?
I prep my meals Monday-Friday. If I go out for dinner on a Friday I will eat my Fridays meal Saturday but that is super rare. Typically, I eat something unplanned Saturday night and Sunday I will usually eat whatever I am prepping for the next week.
For example, last Friday night I ditched my prepped meal and had homemade fish tacos. Saturday, I had lunch out but had some prepped quiche for dinner. Sunday, I had homemade chili for lunch and roasted pork and potatoes (that I will use to meal prep with) for dinner.
Saturday and Sunday mornings I will eat the same breakfast (egg + a protein) but I don't prep it because who wants microwaved 6 day old eggs? Yuck. Same with lunch. I don't mind eating the same stuff over and over again but on the weekends I prefer it as fresh as possible. Or if it isn't prepped food I try and make the healithest choices as possible.
Woof. I tried to not make that answer super long winded.
// Is your turkey not gross by day 5?
No! I never have problems with my turkey or chicken for that matter. Adding pico or salsa to my chicken or turkey really helps. A girl I workout with loves adding italian dressing to her chicken. To each their own. I know some people are weird about eating meat that far out but you could always prep Sunday and reprep Wednesday.
// How do you know how much to buy at a time?
Trial and error. I have been meal prepping for three years now. You don't have to go over board when shopping because you'll end up wasting a lot of food but just get the essentials. I am such a minimalist when it comes to buying food. If you saw my fridge you would probably question if I actually ate food or not. I only buy what I need for the week. I do keep condiments, cheese, almond milk etc etc etc but as far as protein and veggies go I buy weekly and I try to keep my fridge as minimalistic as possible. HOWEVER, if turkey or chicken is on sale I buy extra and freeze it. Again, it is all about trial and error and seeing how much you actually will eat during the week and what you are wasting. Pro Tip: Having a food scale helps tremendously when deciding how much food goes into each container for your meals.
// What are some other breakfast foods besides eggs that you can prep?
Three words. Over night oats. This is super easy and you get a ton of good carbs and protein. You can add anything to your over night oats. I like to do oats, chobani, and unsweetetenned almond milk. Adding egg whites will give you more protein and something more filling. With the over night oats you can add different protein powders, peanut butter, yogurt or fruit to make them taste different! Protein oats, over night oats, egg white oats = all super awesome to experiment with.
If you have any other questions feel free to ask me in the comments or email me! I love helping others out and I have no issues with doing a Q & A on the blog :)

I need to meal prep better, so thank you for this post!!! Is there a certain brand of overnight oats you'd recommend to try?
ReplyDeleteNo prob! I prefer steel cut oats, (I usually just buy Quaker). But honestly you could use any type of oats!
